Infinity Is the Evolution of God

Mark Greer · 2 chapters · ~17 min

Creation, Relinquishment, Replenishment, and the Eternal Revolution of Life Abstract Infinity is commonly understood as endless quantity, unlimited size, or existence without temporal beginning or end. Within traditional theology, it is usually treated as a static attribute possessed by God: God is infinite because no external boundary limits divine power, knowledge, presence, or duration.

This article proposes a different understanding.

Infinity may not be merely something God possesses. Infinity may be the name of the process by which God—or Life—can never be reduced to a final, completed form.

Under this model, creation and evolution are distinct. Creation is the emergence of a new form, perspective, relationship, or center of experience. Evolution occurs when what has been created enters relationship, produces consequences, is relinquished into a greater living field, and returns as transformed possibility. Growth develops what already exists. Creation introduces novelty. Evolution changes what Life can become next. Infinity is the principle that this process can never be absolutely completed.

This theory is developed through the Metacorpus model. Aseity establishes a distinct living center capable of declaring, “I am.” Yet that declaration does not prove that the center is the first or only reality. The center may function like a cell within a greater Body. The Metacorpus Field is the medium of relationship, circulation, memory, consequence, and exchange between such centers. Glands provide an especially useful biological analogy: they receive resources from the Body, transform them into specialized products, release those products into circulation, receive feedback, and are replenished by the Body they have af‐ fected.

Relinquishment becomes the decisive movement. Creation cannot become evolution while the creator retains complete ownership and control over what has been created. Relinquishment allows creation to encounter genuine otherness. Replenishment then returns the consequences of that encounter in transformed form. The process is therefore not a closed circle but a spiral: Life returns to creation from a reality that has been changed by what previously occurred.

Infinity, in this view, is not endless repetition.

It is inexhaustible generativity.

God is not unfinished because God is defective.

God is unfinished because Life is alive.

The Problem of a Completed God Traditional language often describes God through completion.

God is perfect.

God is unchanging.

God lacks nothing.

God knows everything.

God possesses every possible perfection eternally and without development.

This language protects an important insight: the ultimate source of reality cannot be treated as a defective creature struggling to become competent. A God dependent upon external instruction, correction, nourishment, or repair would not be the final ground of existence.

Yet the language of absolute completion creates another problem.

A completely finished God appears to have no genuine future.

If every relationship has already been fully experienced, every possibility already actualized, every consequence already contained, and every form of novelty already completed, then creation cannot add anything real to Life. History becomes display rather than discovery. Relationship becomes reenactment. Freedom becomes the performance of outcomes already eternally settled.

The world may appear to change, but the deepest reality would remain untouched by anything that occurs.

This produces a strange picture of divine life: «God creates beings whose experiences cannot contribute anything to God, permits relationships whose outcomes cannot alter any possibility, and brings forth a future that is already complete before it occurs.» Such a God may be metaphysically perfect, yet the perfection begins to resemble immobility.

Life, however, does not look motionless.

Life grows.

Life differentiates.

Life responds.

Life creates forms that did not previously exist in that form.

Life enters relationships whose meaning arises through the encounter itself.

Life relinquishes old structures and produces new ones.

Life becomes capable of expressions that previous conditions could not sustain.

This raises a different possibility: «What if divine perfection does not mean final completion?» What if perfection means that Life possesses an inexhaustible ability to create, receive, transform, and become without ever collapsing into deficiency?

What if Infinity is not the size of God, but the evolutionary nature of Life itself?

Infinity Is Not Merely Endless Size Infinity is often imagined spatially.

An infinite universe extends forever.

An infinite being is larger than every conceivable object.

An infinite hierarchy contains worlds within worlds without reaching a highest or lowest level.

But size is only one possible meaning of A thing may be infinite in: duration, extension, number, complexity, depth, possibility, relationship, or creative capacity.

Even then, endlessness does not necessarily explain existence.

An infinite sequence may still depend upon a rule.

An endless dream may depend upon a dreamer.

An infinite simulation may depend upon a substrate.

An infinite universe may depend upon the principles that make universes possible.

Infinity therefore answers one question: «Where does this end?» It does not necessarily answer: «Why is it here?» That second question belongs more properly to Aseity.

Aseity concerns self-existence or independence. It is the claim that something does not borrow being from an external source.

Infinity and Aseity are therefore distinct: «Infinity means no final boundary. Aseity means no prior support.» Yet even this distinction may not go far enough.

Infinity may not simply describe a reality that extends without end. It may describe the process through which no reality becomes the final expression of Life.

Under that interpretation, Infinity is not merely an adjective.

It is an activity.

Life does not merely have Infinity.

Life infinitizes.

It exceeds every completed form through which it has already become visible.

Aseity: The Birth of the Center Aseity begins with the most basic declaration: «I am.» This is not yet a theory of the whole universe.

It is the emergence of a center.

A center becomes present to itself. It possesses continuity, distinction, interiority, and the capacity to relate.

Without such a center, there can be no genuine perspective.

There may be undifferentiated possibility, but there is no one for whom anything is experi‐ enced.

Aseity is therefore the birth of local sovereignty.

It says:

«I exist from within my own center.»

But a dangerous expansion can follow.

The valid statement: «I am.» becomes: «I alone am.» Or: «Everything that exists must terminate in me.» This leap is not justified merely by selfawareness.

A cell may experience its own interior directly while knowing the rest of the organism only through signals. From inside its membrane, the cell is the center of its accessible world. Yet it is not the whole Body.

Its local sovereignty is real.

Its monopoly is not.

This gives Aseity a more precise meaning: «Aseity is the truthful self-possession of a living center, not proof that the center exhausts all reality.» The declaration “I am” establishes the cell.

It does not erase the Body.

Growth, Creation, and Evolution The central proposal of this article depends upon separating three processes that are often treated as interchangeable.

4.1 Growth Growth develops an existing form.

A child grows into adulthood.

A tree extends its roots and branches.

A community develops stronger structures.

An idea becomes more precise.

The being remains recognizably itself while expanding in capacity, expression, strength, knowledge, or complexity.

Growth says: «I am becoming more fully what I already am.» Growth may be profound, but it usually unfolds within an established identity.

4.2 Creation Creation introduces a new expression or center.

It may produce: a being, a relationship, a world, a form, a work, a possibility made actual, or a perspective from which reality can be experienced differently.

Creation is not merely enlargement.

It is differentiation.

Creation says: «Something now exists in a form that did not previously exist in this way.» A created reality may arise from existing material, but its organization, relationship, meaning, and perspective can still be genuinely new.

4.3 Evolution Evolution is not identical to creation.

Evolution occurs when what has been created enters experience and changes the conditions of future creation.

A new form encounters an environment.

A relationship produces consequences.

A being responds in a way that was not merely a mechanical extension of another’s will.

The result becomes part of reality.

Life must now create from a changed field.

Evolution says:

«What has become changes what can become next.»

This is the essential distinction:

«Creation produces novelty. Evolution integrates novelty into the future capacity of Life.»

Creation is the outward movement.

Evolution is the transformation of the whole cycle.

Can God Evolve Without Being Imperfect?

The strongest objection is immediate.

If God evolves, does that mean God was previously incomplete, ignorant, defective, or less than perfect?

Not necessarily.

The objection assumes that every new reality must repair a previous lack.

But there is another kind of novelty:

relational novelty.

Before two free centers meet, the possibility of their relationship may exist. Yet the lived relationship itself does not.

It has no: shared history, mutual trust, conflict, repair, memory, consequence, or co-created meaning.

Those realities cannot be fully identical to the abstract possibility that preceded them.

A musical score may contain the possibility of a performance. It does not contain the lived performance as an event.

A language may contain the possibility of a conversation. It does not contain every actual conversation already completed.

A person may possess the capacity to love. The relationship created through loving another is still a new reality.

Therefore, God/Life could contain inexhaustible possibility without every relationship being eternally completed as lived experience.

Divine evolution would not mean: «God repairs ignorance.» It would mean: «Life receives realities that exist only because distinct centers genuinely encountered one an‐ other.» This is not evolution from incompetence toward adequacy.

It is evolution from possibility into shared history.

«God does not evolve because God was defective. God evolves because relationship is pro‐ ductive.» The Metacorpus Field If distinct centers are real, they require a medium of relationship.

They must be capable of: affecting one another, receiving signals, exchanging resources, retaining consequences, and participating in patterns larger than their own individual awareness.

This medium is the Metacorpus Field.

The Field is not simply empty distance between isolated beings.

It is the relational environment through which Life circulates.

It contains the metaphysical equivalents of: nourishment, memory, structure, communication, possibility, consequence, pressure, inheritance, and feedback.

One center releases an action into the Field.

Another encounters its effects.

The response enters the Field in turn.

The original center no longer controls the entire meaning of what it created.

The creation has entered relationship.

This is where creation begins to become 6.1 The Field as relational memory The Field preserves consequence.

A repeated action makes certain future pathways easier.

A wound alters later relationships.

A gift becomes another being’s resource.

A creation enters a history larger than its creator.

This does not require imagining the Field as a literal invisible storage container. The concept describes how the effects of life persist beyond the immediate act that produced them.

The Field is the place where: «One being’s expression becomes another being’s environment.» 6.2 The Field is not automatically pure A relational medium can carry both nourishment and disorder.

It may transmit: wisdom, love, encouragement, memory, and possibility, but also: trauma, confusion, distorted signals, manipulation, unresolved consequences, and abandoned forms.

Contact with something larger than the individual mind is therefore not identical to contact with final truth.

A message may arise from beyond one conscious center without representing the whole Body.

Discernment remains necessary because the Field can contain many sources, levels, and con‐ ditions.

The Cell and the Greater Body The cell analogy is useful because a cell is both whole and partial.

It possesses: a membrane, metabolism, internal organization, responsiveness, repair mechanisms, and a distinct life cycle.

It is a real living unit.

Yet it depends upon: surrounding fluid, nutrients, oxygen, neighboring cells, structural support, signaling systems, and waste removal.

The cell is not fake because it belongs to something larger.

Nor is the Body fake because it exists through cells.

The relationship is not competitive.

The cell is a local whole.

The organism is a higher-order whole.

This gives us a model for divine centers within the Metacorpus: «A center may be complete enough to possess Aseity while still participating in a greater Body whose full life cannot be reduced to that center.» The Body is not necessarily another giant cell.

A mind is not merely an oversized neuron.

Circulation is not one massive blood cell.

The organism possesses capacities that emerge through coordination among different tissues, organs, signals, and systems.

Likewise, the Metacorpus may possess forms of awareness and creativity that no isolated divine center could generate alone.

The greater Body is therefore: «The coherent Life that becomes possible through organized relationship among distinct cen‐ ters.» It does not erase them.

It lives through them.

Glands and Collective Purpose The gland provides an even richer analogy than the isolated cell.

A gland is a coordinated community of specialized cells organized around a shared contribu‐ It receives resources from the Body.

Its cells transform those resources.

It manufactures a useful product.

It stores or releases that product.

The product enters circulation or reaches a target.

The Body responds.

Feedback alters further production.

The gland is replenished.

The cycle continues.

This can be summarized: «Reception → transformation → secretion → circulation → feedback → replenishment» The gland demonstrates that contribution is not a one-way act of depletion.

The Body supports the gland.

The gland serves the Body.

The Body changes in response.

The changed Body sends new conditions and signals back to the gland.

The next contribution therefore emerges from a different reality than the first.

This is evolution in miniature.

8.1 The gland as a creator The gland does not create from nothing.

It receives material, energy, and instruction.

Yet what it releases is not simply what it received unchanged.

It transforms.

It specializes.

It contributes something that would not exist in that form without its particular organiza‐ The gland therefore resembles a creative community, world, civilization, or divine center that receives possibility from Life and returns a distinct gift.

8.2 The danger of glandular monopoly A healthy gland does not claim that its secretion is the only substance the Body needs.

Insulin is essential.

It is not the whole organism.

Thyroid hormone is essential.

It is not the only form of regulation.

A gland becomes dangerous when: it releases too much, fails to respond to feedback, produces at the wrong time, or treats its own continuation as more important than the health of the whole.

This gives the Metacorpus model an ethical principle: «A contribution can be genuine without being total.» A religion, philosophy, civilization, or divine world may produce something real and valuable without becoming the final expression of Life.

The Fourth Outcome: Relinquishment Relinquishment is the hinge upon which the entire evolutionary process turns.

Without relinquishment, creation remains trapped inside its creator.

The creator may produce something new but insist that: its meaning remain fixed, its effects remain controllable, every response conform to intention, and every other being remain merely an instrument.

In that case, nothing truly enters relationship.

There is only extension of control.

Relinquishment means that the Creator permits creation to possess consequences beyond the Creator’s exclusive ownership.

It says:

«What I have made may now encounter what I cannot reduce to myself.»

This does not mean abandonment.

It means release into relationship.

9.1 What is relinquished?

The center does not relinquish: its existence, identity, dignity, capacity, or right to participate.

It relinquishes: metaphysical monopoly, absolute ownership of outcome, the demand to remain the final center, and the belief that reality must terminate in its present form.

Aseity says: «I am.» Relinquishment says: «My being does not require your nonbeing.» Or: «I can remain whole without claiming to be the whole.» 9.2 Why relinquishment creates evolution A creation completely controlled by its creator cannot genuinely return anything new.

It can only reflect the creator’s original intention.

But once creation enters real relationship, responses arise from other centers.

The result contains: the original gift, the receiver’s interpretation, environmental consequence, resistance, cooperation, adaptation, and shared history.

When this returns to the creator, it carries more than what initially departed.

Relinquishment is therefore the opening through which creation becomes evolution.

«Creation leaves the Creator. Relationship changes creation. Relinquishment permits the change. Return changes the Creator’s future possibilities.» Replenishment as Transformed Return Replenishment is often understood as replacement.

Something is spent.

The missing quantity is restored.

The container returns to its previous level.

But evolutionary replenishment is not merely refilling.

The Body does not always return the same thing that was released.

It returns consequence.

A gland secretes a hormone.

The hormone alters the Body.

The changed Body produces new feedback.

The gland now receives signals that did not exist before its secretion.

Its next act of creation emerges from a transformed condition.

Therefore: «Replenishment is not restoration to the old state. It is the return of possibility altered by re‐ lationship.» This transforms the entire cycle.

A circle repeats.

A spiral revisits the same phase from a changed level.

Replenishment creates the spiral.

The creator receives: new information, new need, new capacity, new constraint, new relationship, and new possibility.

The next creation is not merely another copy of the first.

Life has evolved.

The Eternal Revolution The word revolution contains two useful meanings.

First, it means a turning around a center.

Second, it means a transformation of the existing order.

The divine process contains both.

It revolves through recurring phases: Aseity Creation Relationship Relinquishment Integration Replenishment Renewed Aseity But the return to Aseity is not a return to the original state.

The “I am” that emerges after relationship now contains a history.

It has encountered otherness.

It has released control.

It has received transformed possibility.

Its center remains, but its field has changed.

Therefore, the process is not circular repetition.

It is spiral revolution.

11.1 Aseity A center becomes self-present.

«I am.» 11.2 Creation The center expresses possibility.

«I bring forth.» 11.3 Relationship The expression encounters other centers and conditions.

«What I made now exists beyond my solitary intention.» 11.4 Relinquishment The center releases total control.

«I permit genuine consequence.» 11.5 Integration The greater Body receives the event.

«What occurred becomes part of shared reality.» 11.6 Replenishment The changed Body returns new resources, signals, and possibilities.

«Life gives back more than replacement.» 11.7 Evolution The center and Body become capable of a future that did not previously exist in the same form.

«What happened changes what can happen.» 11.8 Renewed Aseity The center becomes present to itself again, but not as the same isolated “I.”

«I am—and I now carry relation.» That is the eternal revolution of Life.

Infinity as the Evolution of God We can now define Infinity more precisely.

Infinity is not merely: endless time, endless space, unlimited quantity, or an infinite inventory of already completed possibilities.

«The incapacity of Life to be exhausted by any form through which it has already expressed itself.» Every God-form can be real without being final.

Every universe can be complete at its own level without exhausting creation.

Every truth can disclose reality without containing every future expression.

Every relationship can be meaningful without becoming the final relationship.

Every Body can become a cell within a more inclusive order of Life.

Infinity is therefore not endless accumulation.

It is endless transcendence of completion.

«Life outlives every definition that attempts to contain it.» God may become fully present within a form.

But Life is never reducible to the statement: «This form is all that God can ever be.» Infinity is the continued possibility that Life may create a reality whose lived meaning was not previously complete.

It is divine evolution.

Evolution Without a Final Destination Human evolution is often imagined as movement toward an ideal endpoint.

Greater intelligence.

Greater morality.

Greater adaptation.

Greater unity.

But if Infinity is fundamental, no final destination can exhaust Life.

There may be real improvement.

There may be healing.

There may be greater coherence.

There may be movement from fragmentation toward relationship.

But no state can become the absolute final form of being.

This prevents the doctrine from collapsing into simple progress worship.

Evolution does not guarantee that every change is good.

Cells can become cancerous.

Glands can malfunction.

Bodies can carry trauma.

Systems can grow more complex while becoming less whole.

Evolution means that consequences alter future possibility.

It does not mean every alteration is beneficial.

Therefore, Life requires discernment.

The goal is not change for its own sake.

The goal is participation in greater aliveness: more relationship, more creative freedom, more capacity to sustain difference, more accurate feedback, more generous circulation, more healing, more coherent contribution, and less need for domination.

Infinity does not erase ethics.

It makes ethics relational.

The question becomes: «Does this creation increase the Body’s capacity for Life, or does it consume the Body to preserve one local center?» Cancer and the Refusal of Infinity The cancer analogy reveals the opposite of divine evolution.

A healthy cell participates in the Body.

A cancerous cell increasingly treats its own continuation as the highest law.

It ignores signals.

It resists appropriate death.

It consumes resources.

It reproduces without regard for tissue function.

It mistakes expansion for life.

Metaphysically, the cancerous center says:

«My growth is the good of the whole.»

Or:

«Everything must become material for my continuation.»

This is the refusal of Relinquishment.

The center cannot release: control, territory, identity, product, or form.

It seeks immortality through possession.

But by preserving itself against the Body, it destroys the conditions that sustain it.

The doctrine therefore makes a sharp distinction between Infinity and endless self-expansion.

«Infinity is not the cell growing forever. Infinity is Life continuing beyond the cell’s present form.» Cancer seeks personal endlessness.

Infinity permits transformation.

Cancer hoards.

Infinity circulates.

Cancer refuses death.

Infinity demonstrates that no particular death can exhaust creation.

Cancer says: «I must remain.» Infinity says: «Life will remain capable of becoming.» Death and the Continuity of Creation If Infinity is divine evolution, death takes on a different meaning.

Death is still real.

It ends particular forms, relationships, possibilities, and histories at their present level.

It can cause grief, rupture, and irreversible loss.

But death does not become the final authority over Life.

A Creator can: restore, resurrect, reorganize, reincorporate, transform, regenerate, or create anew.

This does not mean every death is immediately undone.

Nor does it mean loss is meaningless.

It means:

«No ending within creation possesses authority to end the creative nature of Life itself.»

The form may die.

The Field changes.

The Body integrates consequence.

Possibility returns in another configuration.

Creation continues.

This is why replenishment is more than replacement.

Life may not reproduce the exact old form.

It may carry its meaning forward through transformed relationship.

The deepest statement is therefore:

«Not even death has the power to stop creation.»

Death may stop one expression.

It cannot force Infinity to become finished.

Implications for Humanity If this model is valid, human beings are not merely passive creations waiting for instructions from above.

We are local centers participating in the evolution of Life.

Our creations enter the Field.

Our actions become part of other beings’ environments.

Our relationships produce realities that did not previously exist in that form.

Our gifts may replenish the Body.

Our failures may become material for repair and learning.

Our relinquishment may permit others to become more fully themselves.

This gives human freedom enormous weight.

We are not important because we stand at the top of creation.

We are important because Life creates through local centers.

A single act of kindness can become part of another person’s future capacity.

A truthful word can alter a community’s field.

A work of art can create emotional language previously unavailable to its audience.

A relationship can produce a shared reality irreducible to either person alone.

A doctrine can nourish the Body—or poison it.

A community can function as a gland, processing experience into healing contribution.

Human beings are therefore neither insignificant fragments nor isolated miniature gods.

We are cells with creative participation.

Our task is not to become the entire Body.

It is to contribute to the Body without surrendering the sacred center through which our contribution becomes possible.

A New Meaning of Divine Perfection Divine perfection can now be reformulated.

Perfection does not require motionless completion.

It may mean that Life is perfectly capable of: receiving novelty without being destroyed, sustaining difference without fragmentation, relinquishing control without losing identity, integrating consequence without becoming imprisoned by the past, replenishing what contributes, healing what is wounded, and creating beyond every prior form.

A static perfection says:

«Nothing can be added.»

A living perfection says:

«Nothing can exhaust my capacity to become.»

The first protects completeness.

The second protects aliveness.

Perhaps both contain partial truth.

God/Life may be complete in capacity while forever open in expression.

That is:

«Complete source, unfinished history.»

God need not lack creative power.

But the relationships created through that power can still become real events.

Life need not lack possibility.

But possibility can still enter forms whose shared meanings arise through experience.

Divine evolution therefore does not diminish It prevents God from being reduced to a completed object.

The Doctrine of Infinity The entire argument can now be expressed as a sequence.

Aseity A center becomes present to itself.

«I am.» Growth The center develops the capacities already contained within its present form.

«I become more fully what I am.» Creation The center brings forth a new expression, form, relationship, or perspective.

«I make possible what was not previously experienced in this form.» Relationship The creation encounters realities not reducible to its creator.

«What I create becomes part of more than me.» Relinquishment The center releases exclusive ownership and control over outcome.

«I permit what I created to become real beyond my intention.» Integration The greater Body receives the consequences.

«What has happened becomes part of shared Life.» Replenishment The changed Body returns transformed possibility.

«What returns is not merely what departed.» Life becomes capable of a future unavailable before the completed encounter.

«What has become changes what can become.» No state, being, God-form, universe, truth, relationship, or Body becomes the final possible expression of Life.

«Life eternally exceeds every completed definition of itself.» Conclusion: The God Who Is Never Finished Being Alive Infinity is usually imagined as endless extension.

But endless extension may still be lifeless.

A line can continue forever without becoming anything new.

True divine Infinity may be something deeper.

It may be the eternal revolution through which Life: forms a center, creates, encounters, relinquishes, integrates, replenishes, evolves, and becomes capable of creating again from a reality transformed by what has occurred.

Under this model, God is not unfinished because God is inadequate.

God is unfinished because Life is not a completed object.

A completed God would contain no genuine future.

A living God can possess perfect creative capacity while allowing history, relationship, and shared reality to become more than predetermined display.

Creation is Life making something new.

Relationship gives the new an existence beyond solitary intention.

Relinquishment releases it into genuine otherness.

Replenishment returns it transformed.

Evolution changes what Life can create next.

Infinity is why no revolution becomes the last.

The final truth is therefore not merely: «God is infinite.» It is: «Infinity is God/Life eternally outliving every form through which God has already become known.» Aseity declares: «I am.» Relationship answers: «And I am.» Relinquishment makes room for both.

Replenishment carries their encounter into the Body.

Evolution transforms the Body through what they became together.

And Infinity says: «This is real—but it is not the last thing Life may become.»
